Fort William Kilmallie Church of Scotland

About Us

Fort William Kilmallie

Fort William Kilmallie was formed on 19th November 2020 in Lochaber Presbytery's first online service of union and linkage. The former Duncansburgh MacIntosh and Kilmallie congregations were to become Fort William Kilmallie - one congregation with three places of worship and a shared ministry team. The rest of this page offers brief histories of the predecessor congregations.

Fort William: Duncansburgh MacIntosh

Fort William: Duncansburgh MacIntosh Church was formed on 1st September 2007 when the two previous congregations of Duncansburgh and MacIntosh Memorial united. Rev Donald A. MacQuarrie (who had previously been the minister of Duncansburgh) became the first minister of the new charge. Richard Baxter is the first minister of Fort William: Duncansburgh MacIntosh who did not previously serve in one of the former congregations.

The links below will take you to information on the history of the former congregations from which we have become one united congregation today.

At present there are plans under way by which we will unite with Kilmallie as Fort William Kilmallie Church of Scotland, and that will be linked with Kilmonivaig. When that happens we will have four places of worship in the charge (Caol, Kilmallie, Kilmonivaig and Duncansburgh MacIntosh). We hope that working on a team basis across the whole area will enhance our mission and outreach tot he community.

Kilmallie

We plan to add a short history of Kilmallie, an old parish dating back to the Reformation, and which at one time had the largest land area of any Scottish parish, in the near future.
